ABOUT THE EHIBITIONS

Justin James Reed: Reenchantment

Creating delicate black-and-white photographs of encounters with the natural world, Justin James Reed discovers that reenchantment is indeed a gift that is offered by acknowledging the true reality of one’s past and the guides who have been there all along. Reed’s photographs show the beauty and fragility of beings that we share this planet with, exploring the quiet ways in which nonhuman entities communicate with us. Essays by Jo Hickey-Hall, Brother Richard Hendrick, Timothy Grieve-Carlson, Kim Philley, and the author himself are intertwined throughout the book, connecting a broader dialogue around the phenomena to Reed’s photographic practice.

Kyohei Abe: Opus

Baltimore artist Kyohei Abe received his M.F.A. in photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Abe is the founding director and chief curator of the Detroit Center for Contemporary Photography. In addition to his curatorial practice, Abe’s research investigates dimensionality and structured play through the constructed photographic space. Abe’s work is in museum collections nationwide including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the West Collection, Oaks, Pennsylvania. His work was recently published in The Collector’s Eye: A Photographer’s View of His Contemporaries by Schilt Publishing. Additionally, his work “Imaginary Scapes” was recently exhibited through Jason Shin Gallery in South Korea.

Donna Soo: Radio Waves

Austin-based Donna Soo creates sculptures and arranges them in tableaus, which are then photographed using traditional photography techniques. Soo attended her foundation year at The Cooper Union School of Art and completed her BFA at The University of Texas at El Paso with concentrations in sculpture, metalsmithing, and printmaking. She received her MFA in sculpture at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
