Candela Books + Gallery is now
Candela Photographic Arts

We've evolved! While much of our programming and spirit will remain the same, this transition into a nonprofit organization allows us to expand and deepen our fifteen-year commitment to contemporary photography through exhibitions, publications, artist stipends, and community-centered programming.

UNBOUND15!

THE ANNUAL JURIED & INVITATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

Wednesday, July 1 – Saturday, August 8, 2026

CANDELAFEST!

AUGUST 1, 6-10PM

The UnBound! gala becomes CANDELAFEST!

With Candela’s new 501c3 identity, we’re scaling our beloved annual festivities to fundraise for our operations and programming; we will still collect work from the summer show, still dole out 1-2 honorariums, but now you can party with a bigger impact! Your support will allow us to continue providing free public programming, artist stipends, and an ambitious exhibition and publishing calendar. Thanks for loving photography!

Candela Photographic Arts is devoted to elevating the discourse around contemporary photography through exhibitions and publications that highlight compelling narratives and experimental approaches to the medium, showcasing regional, national, and international artists, with a particular focus on emerging and mid-career voices.

Located at 214 W Broad St. in Richmond’s Arts District in Jackson Ward.
Gallery hours are 11-5 Tuesday to Friday, 12-5 Saturday, and
by appointment.
