Alma Haser
FOUR LEGS
MAY 1 – JUNE 20, 2026
Four Legs
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Haser’s work continues to extend beyond the simple image in Four Legs, a series of unique ceramic chairs shown alongside playful and meticulous photographs of the objects. The project emerged during a period in which the artist felt overwhelmed by the constant negotiations and emotional labor of everyday life. In response, Haser began dedicating one day each week to pottery as a space for slowing down and experimenting, which eventually led to a still-growing collection of small ceramic chairs.
Built around a series of intimate handmade objects, Four Legs features a collection of unique ceramic chairs presented alongside photographs of each form. Through the repetitive and tactile process of shaping these miniature sculptures, Haser discovered a space for imaginative play and quiet control amid the unpredictability of daily life. The accompanying photographs further blur the boundaries between object and image, a gesture that runs deeply throughout Haser’s broader practice.
Known for combining mediums within her work, Four Legs marks a natural progression for the artist, expanding her visual language through material experimentation and sculpture while maintaining the emotional sensitivity and layered storytelling present throughout her practice.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Born in Germany, Alma Haser is currently based in SouthEast England. Haser studied photography at Nottingham Trent University. Known for her complex and meticulously constructed photographs, her work expands the dimensions of traditional photography.
Haser uses analogue techniques, such as inventive paper-folding, collage and mixed media to create layers of intrigue around her subjects; manipulating her photographs into bewildering paper sculptures and blurring the distinctions between two-dimensional and three-dimensional imagery. The work often makes us question our sense of what is real, seeking to expose the unreal, creating images that make us question what we are seeing.
Haser's work has been published and exhibited worldwide. In addition to receiving awards such as the Magenta Foundation's Bright Spark Award, the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery, and the PDN Photo Annual Award.
