Tommy Kha & JW Toftness
Join us on Friday, September 4 from 5-8pm for solo exhibition openings by Tommy Kha and JW Toftness. Kha’s Facades and Toftness’ When Seeds are Sent for Flowers will be on view through October 24.
Tommy Kha (b. Memphis, TN) is a photographer currently based in Brooklyn, New York. Kha holds an MFA in Photography from Yale University, where he currently teaches.
He is a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow.
He is previously a recipient of the Hayes Prize, Next Step Award, and Foam Talent, and NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow. He has had solo shows at Higher Pictures, Baxter St. at the Camera Club of New York, and Blue Sky Gallery. Kha’s work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Aperture, the New Yorker, among other publications.
Currently, Kha studies kung fu under Sifu Ken Lo. He joined Higher Pictures in 2022. His first major publication, Half, Full, Quarter was published by Aperture in February 2023.
JW Toftness (b. 1984) focuses on human relationships with technology and on slippages between perceived and mediated realities. Toftness incorporates imagery from various nodes of visual culture, embedding in his works a critique of how image ecologies shape our experience. Based in Savannah, GA, he is a featured artist in "New South, Volume 2: Double Vision" (Atlanta Center for Photography, 2025). His work was recently exhibited in UnBound14! at Candela Books + Gallery in Richmond, VA, and in other group shows at: Atlanta Photography Group, Atlanta, GA; Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts, Providence, RI; Oregon Contemporary, Portland, OR; and ATHICA, Athens, GA. His first solo exhibition will be at Cleo the Project Space in Savannah, December 2025.
